After launching in Paris last January and travelling to different cosmopolitan cities around the world including Hong Kong, London and New York, The YSL Beauty Hotel finally appeared in Toronto. It would be an understatement to say that I was excited about its arrival: between its sleek packaging and fantastic formulas, YSL beauty is definitely one of the top beauty brands on the market. As an extension to the Saint Laurent fashion house, YSL beauty brilliantly encapsulates the rock’n’roll spirit with its line of daring products and I was eager to learn more about it all.
While the hotel is beautifully designed to be as instagrammable as possible, the experience does not stop there. An army of makeup artists is at your disposal to allow you to discover the latest beauty innovations from the brand by giving you a glimpse of products that might not even be on the market yet. On top of that, attendees had the chance to take part in makeup masterclasses by some of the brilliant artists that work for YSL. In today’s blog post, I’d like to talk about some of the new products that I am most excited about.
First of all, lets talk about Top Secrets. This line was inspired by the makeup artists at YSL and developed by their skincare experts. As such, it is a hybrid of the two, a makeup line that also has great benefits for your skin. The newest launch from Top Secrets is the moisturizing prep lotion, enriched in hyaluronic acid and walnut leaf extract and it moisturizes your skin for up to 24 hours while leaving it glowing and prime for makeup. The great thing about it is that it can also be used on its own as an additional moisture booster. I am absolutely in love with the formula! When I saw it in the bottle, I assumed that it would be similar to a micellar water but it actually foams up and leaves your skin feeling super soft. I used it in combination with the YSL fusion ink compact foundation and the touche éclat highlighter pen and it worked like an absolute dream.
Next up we have the new All Hours Foundation stick which is currently available in twenty different shades. The waterproof 24hr foundation has a cool cream-to-powder texture that feels lightweight and looks velvety on the skin. It is perfect if you want to carry it on the go and I love that it is non-cakey even though it offers high coverage. The second newest beauty innovation from the brand is the Rouge Pur Couture The Slim, a leather- matte skinny lipstick in a square tapered bullet. The cool thing about it is that the lipstick itself is also in a square shape, allowing for more precision during application. As I don't usually write about products that I haven't tried first hand, I can assure you that I’ve done tests of this one at home and that the lipstick is ridiculously pigmented. After one application, you’re sure to get the vibrant red advertised on the packaging even in the case of the No 21 Rouge Paradoxe. Another thing that is worth noting is that it has a nude lip feel which makes for a comfortable wear.
Last but not least, we’ll talk about two new fragrance options. Black Opium, the iconic female fragrance, is now available in a click & Go format similar to the touche éclat highlighter pen. With one click of the pen, some fragranced gel is diffused onto the brush and you can just apply them on your neck, décolleté and wrists. I absolutely love the format that they chose for the new Black Opium and the scent travels quite beautifully in this gel medium. The only new arrival for men is the Eau de Parfum version of Y. The scent is “a seductive fragrance interpretation of Yves Saint Laurent’s iconic white t-shirt and black jacket”. As much as I loved the original version of Y, I did find that it lacked a little je ne sais quoi and Dominique Ropion has definitely rectified that with the new version. It is an edgier and multi facetted fragrance that is sure to please men and women.
After a fun night of partying, I was more than happy to find my bed and a gallon of coffee the next morning. However, I am eager to see where the YSL beauty hotel will land next and all the new innovations that they will be showcasing there.
