As an avid lover of skincare, I always feel the urge to give new products a try since there’s always something fresh and new coming out on the market. That being said, the constant rotation of new products isn’t the most beneficial to my skin, especially combined with the fact that I’ve been travelling back and forth from hot to cold climates lately. As a result, my skin isn’t at its optimal and I’ve been experiencing a few hydration and breakout issues. I am not blaming any of the new products I’ve been trying but rather, I felt like my skin needed a small break and it was time for me to momentarily go back to a routine of my holy grails.
In terms of cleanser, I’ve always been a huge fan of Avene’s Cleanance Cleansing Gel which is an absolute godsend for anyone with acne prone skin. It was one of the products that my dermatologist recommended when I was a teenager and I still use it to this day. However I recently discovered Fresh’s Soy Face Cleanser and I have really been enjoying it so far. The scent is reminiscent of cucumber and I found it to cleanse my skin quite thoroughly without stripping away any of its hydration. I also decided to add Fresh’s Rose Deep Hydration Facial Toner to my routine as I found it to be quite soothing to my skin. I originally disliked the scent (I am not a big fan of rose scented products) but it was so effective that I decided to keep using it and I grew to love the smell.
The next steps in my routine are meant to boost hydration. I am a huge fan of Estee Lauder’s Advanced Night Repair Synchronized Recovery Complex II which is a bestselling anti-aging serum. It is never too early to start fighting the signs of aging and this serum leaves my skin feeling supple, radiant and hydrated. Although its name implies that it is a night serum, I have also been utilizing it during the day lately. When it comes to eyes, I’ve started using Fresh’s Black Tea Firming Eye Serum and I have been loving it! It has really been helping with the uneven texture underneath my eyes that is a direct result of lack of sleep and hydration. The finishing touch is Guerlain’s Orchidee Imperiale The Eye and Lip Contour Cream which is another anti-aging option for both day and night. I love the texture and scent of this one and it really helps to reduce any dark circles that I may encounter plus I love that it also doubles as a lip contour cream.
For the rest of my face, I am obsessed with La Mer’s Moisturizing Soft Cream. I will not lie, I was originally quite doubtful given the price of the product but after giving it a try I can honestly say that I am hooked. It is my go-to for hydration and you always wake up the next day with the most gorgeous glow. I recently finished my first jar of the cream and I am seriously considering purchasing another one. The last skincare step is one that is often forgotten: sunscreen. If you value your skin, use sunscreen guys! I have been using the new Estee Lauder Perfectionist Pro Multi- Defense UV Fluid with SPF 45 and it is amazing. It is thin enough that it blends in perfectly on the skin, doesn’t leave a white residue, does not have any flashback (I checked in photography) and it doesn’t have that very distinct SPF scent. Needless to say that it immediately joined my routine.
I originally grabbed the YSL Instant Moisture Glow as I heard that it made for a beautiful primer but I’ve also been using it on makeup-free days lately. Just like every other product in the Top Secrets line, it smells fantastic and it doesn’t have the silicon feel that a lot of primers have. Instead, it really boosts up the hydration and leaves a gorgeous dewy glow to your skin. Another great option from the line is the Moisturizing Prep lotion which came out late last year. It refreshes and hydrates the skin to help with a flawless makeup application or if you feel like having a hydration boost throughout the day. In terms of highlighter, I’ve been loving the Gold Attraction Face Highlighter from YSL which comes as a bi-color highlighter stick. It isn’t blinding by any means but the micro formula leaves a lovely fresh dewy look to your cheekbones which could definitely pass for being natural.
A quick spritz of Caudalie’s Beauty Elixir seals in all the goodness and can also refresh your skin throughout the day with just a couple of spritzes (make sure to apply some on the back of your neck as it feels exquisite). The finishing touch to any look should always be a dash of perfume. Fragrances are very subjective to everyone’s personal tastes but I do find that you cannot go wrong with scents from Byredo, Le Labo, Louis Vuitton or Dyptique. They are companies that truly care for their scents and favour the use of high quality natural oils rather than synthetic scents. That being said, my current favourites include Louis Vuitton’s Ombre Nomade and Tom Ford’s Oud Wood which are both woodier sensual scents that are perfect for the colder season.
Of course, everyone’s skin is different and while those work great on me, I cannot guarantee that it will work on someone else. It is often a trial and error process until you find the right ones for you but I am definitely curious to know: what are some of your holy grail beauty products?
