Fall Look / by Didier Young

The temperature has finally gone down in Toronto which means that we have now entered my favourite time of the year: Jumper season. When it comes down to fashion, fall has always been my favourite with its beautiful coats, cosy jumpers and stylish boots. I have always found it hard to put together an elegant look in summer and winter but I usually thrive during the autumnal months. Today’s blog post will be short and sweet and focus on a typical fall look for me.

No matter the time of the year, the way I dress usually revolves around comfort. That doesn’t mean that I’ll be walking around in a Juicy Couture sweatpant/ hoodie matching suit but rather that I will favour pieces that I feel comfortable in. That often includes a cosy jumper or a sweatshirt. However, with the fluctuating temperatures between the outdoors and indoors, I usually make sure to include an inner layer so that I can always take off the jumper if it gets too hot. This particular one was from Massimo Dutti and is made of a wool and yak blend. I have always had a love for cable knit jumpers and this one is no exception.

Since I like my jumpers slightly oversized, I tend to compensate with skinnier pants. Chinos would definitely be a great option if you want to dress up your look slightly, but on a casual day out in the city, I’ll often opt for denim like those Paige jeans. They are super soft and elastic which makes them almost feel like a second skin. An added bonus to skinny pants is that it gives the illusion of longer legs, which is something that I am quite grateful for given my height.

When it comes down to foot wear, I’ll usually pick a pair of boots. They keep my feet warm, dry and if you find the right pair, they can add the right splash of chic to your outfit. I grabbed this gorgeous pair of Matteo Bertoni boots from the newly opened location of Jean-Paul Fortin at Yorkville Village. The shoe brand is available exclusively at the store and is designed and made in Italy. I often purchase boots in shades of brown as I find them far more versatile than black boots.

There we go! Of course, throughout the season my jumper will change from merino to cashmere and crew to turtle necks but the basic foundation of the outfit remains the same. Now all I need to complete the look is a warm coat, a cute toque and a hot cup of coffee and we are good to go.
